What is custom coaching?

A custom coaching plan is personally specific to an athlete's needs. A custom plan takes into consideration the athlete's individual strengths and weaknesses, training history, injuries, skill, lifestyle, fitness level, goals, diet, equipment and other important data. If you're asking yourself what can a coach do that you can't find online or in a book and the answer is accountability and consistent, accurate and clear feedback. Coaches monitor progress and make adjustments to an athlete's schedule as required. A coach can determine if the athlete is under emotional stress, feeling the effects of burn out, challenged enough or too litte as well as other pertinent data that can have a tremendous impact on performance.

Athletes that might balk at the idea of hiring a coach are usually the athletes that can benefit the most. A fairly common perception is that coaches are for elite and fast athletes who win races and have all the time in the world to train. Why would a coach waste time with someone that has to balance training with a job and a family and who always finishes squarely in the middle of the pack? In actuality, anyone who wants to work toward a physical goal, or reach their true potential can benefit greatly from coaching. It doesn't matter if that goal is to win a marathon or to simply finish one. Coaching is for anyone who wants to train safely, effectively, and maximize their training time. All the training guesswork is removed. Each work out they perform has a specific purpose and moves them toward their goal. This means that instead of spending hours wading through generic plans wondering which one will work best for you, you can spend your time doing what you love most: training. If you have a busy schedule, you can definitely benefit from a coach. If you're a beginner, a proper foundation is crucial so that bad form is not carried forward and made a bad habit.

Train Smart Coaching offers three coaching service levels to fit your needs, goals and budget. Our coaching plans are all fully custom built. All aspects of the athlete's lifestyle are considered such as their work, stress levels, lifestyle, sleep, nutrition and medical history. We do not use templates. Each custom plan is built from scratch on a clean sheet of paper. This is not a generic training plan that you find on the web. All plans are customized to your specific needs, goals and lifestyle.

Each level of coaching represents an increase in the amount of attention and time from the coach and depth of coaching analysis. Plans are built in four week blocks and modified based on the level of service purchased. GOLD COACHING PLAN:

Overview: This coaching plan is highly focused and extensive for the serious athlete who wants to maximize their ultimate potential. Works well for any one in any sport or profession; great for frequent competitors and people with high performance competition goals. Custom plan includes race tactics and strategy, physical limiters, nutrition analysis and hydration.

Gold Plan includes:

  • Custom daily workouts designed for your personal goals and races
  • Daily coaching workouts include all training parameters (heart rate, cadence, pace, power, etc.)
  • Custom plan is monitored daily through contact with your coach and online coaching software
  • 3 hours of one-on-one training sessions per month
  • Trainingpeaks.com online workout log account
  • Daily in depth program monitoring, plan adjustments and progress review
  • Unlimited access by phone and e-mail contact
  • Start-Up fee of $250.00; $225.00 per 4 wk. block; 6 month minimum commitment

SILVER COACHING PLAN:

Overview: Perfect for the busy experienced athlete who would like to maximize their training time. Customized plan suited to your specific needs. Plan can be adjusted and modified weekly as needed. Works well for frequent competitors; athletes with busy work, travel and family schedules; athletes with high performance competition goals.

Silver Plan includes:

  • Custom daily workouts designed for your personal goals and races
  • Daily coaching workouts include all training parameters (heart rate, cadence, pace, power, etc.)
  • Custom plan is odified and adjusted weekly according to your goals, ability and needs
  • 2 hours of one-on-one training sessions per month
  • Trainingpeaks.com online workout log account
  • Weekly program monitoring, plan adjustments and progress review
  • Pre-scheduled weekly email and/or phone contact for support and questions
  • Start-Up fee $150.00; $175.00 per 4 wk. training block; 3 month minimum commitment

BRONZE COACHING PLAN:

Overview: For the self-motivated athlete looking for a structured coaching plan and can train consistently, yet still wants to work under the direction and assistance of an expert licensed coach. Coaching plan is built into 4 week blocks according to your goals/ability/needs. Works well for frequent competitors & frequent travelers.

Basic Plan includes:

  • Customized daily workouts designed for your personal goals and races
  • Daily coaching workouts include all training parameters (heart rate, cadence, pace, power, etc.)
  • Custom plan is built into 4 week blocks; Coach evaluates the athlete's progress and performance to build the next 4 week training block
  • 1 hour of one-on-one training sessions per month
  • Trainingpeaks.com online workout log account
  • Bi-weekly training calendar and progress review
  • Coach is available via email for support and questions
  • Start-Up fee $100.00; $125.00 per 4 wk. training block; 3 month minimum commitment
